Mary Chen, Reckless Driver.
17:48:35, 1999-11-04
Today I went to traffic court; it was THE BEST!Or the opposite, whatever. I got pulled over 2 months ago for doing 83 in a 55, but you gotta understand, this was on the Dulles Toll Road where people in the right right right hand lane of a four lane road do 70. It's totally scandalous that it's a 55 mph road but whatever. So anyway, since that was more than 20 over the limit, i got reckless driving. So i went to my mandatory court date today and I pled guilty cause i had no fucking idea what else to do, i mean, i was going 83, and i know i can't get the speed limit changed in traffic court so it's like, what else was there to say? Sometimes i'm really lazy with shit like that, i just didn't feel like staying in court all day so that i could get up there and say "yeah, i was doing 83 but like, it totally wasn't reckless!" and he'd say "yes it was cause that's the law so bite me you impudent little twit!" and i'd say "fuck you! your honor!" and he'd say "i'll show you fuck you! maximum fine of $2500 and 1 year in prison! With no dessert!" instead, i said "guilty," at which point the officer who pulled me over totally fucking defended me and was like "well, she was fluctuating between 70 and 80 and she has no prior points on her license and she was late for work" so i got a low fine (only $70, whereas a guy before me who had the exact same violation, except his cop only gave him a speeding ticket, he got a $130 fine). The judge even looked like he felt sorry for me and i just stayed quiet and small and tried to look as Asian as possible. Oooh, i'm gonna get hate mail for that one. Anyway, i figured the damage was done when i got the reckless driving ticket, and the only chance for leniency with the actual charge was at the time i was pulled over, like with the other guy who only got a speeding ticket. All these people kept saying it would get "knocked down to speeding" in court but i wasn't sure when i got there if that meant i should plead guilty or not guilty, and by the size of the docket and the fact that i had a lot of work to do today, i figured, Guilty it is! So now i have 6 points on my license, and my insurance will probably skyrocket, and i can't afford to buy my snowboard boots and bindings this weekend. So the moral of the story is: Just Say No to Driving Fast!
