Diaryland Daisuki!
17:07:12, 2000-04-21
Old Boston Friend Ryan Murphy, who was working for Errol Morris (the fastcheapandoutofcontrol and first person director guy) up until recently, and WHO RULES, just sent me a tape of three episodes of First Person including the Temple Grandin one. Know what's better than mean people? Ryan Murphy. Today I was going to give you a short japanese lesson because I was supposed to have tempura at lunch today but then we didn't. Maybe I will give you a short japanese lesson anyway.. Yes! Yes it's a fact! I WILL! Lesson 1: If you say daisuki (pronounced pretty much DICE-key except japaneser) after something it means you like it a LOT. Like "tempura daisuki" or "sapporo (pronounced SAPPODOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!) daisuki" or "mah-yo-nay-su daisuki." Know how I know? Because Thos got me a little book with a little monkey on it who said Banana Daisuki. And some other stuff. So, being the resourceful half-blood that I am, I brought it home to my dad and made him translate (he is Taiwanese, but was raised when the Japanese Imperial Army occupied Taiwan and they spoke Japanese in school.. it's actually really a lot more interesting than a parenthetical but I know you're just dying to hear more about monkeys and how much they like bananas, which is a LOT). So he told me and that night we went out to dinner and i said "TEMPURA DAISUKI!" and I was the smartest, most resourceful little half-blood in the whole restaurant. The other thing the monkey said was that he preferred bananas to homework. And you know what, so do I. And i don't even like bananas all that much. But still, I think me and that monkey have a lot in common. Lesson 2: When female tour guides in Japan say Sayonara it sounds more like "SayoNANA!" Just so you know.
Lesson 3:I don't know how to say anything else in Japanese except thank you and that's boring. And I think that's ok, because I like to have a positive mental attitude, and I think saying I like everything a LOT is a good strategy toward that end. Four Forty Nine Four Forty Nine. I can't take this friday. I need to go home now. I finally got like 4 massive albatrosses off my neck this week and I just want to sit around and read and be with Chen. This weekend I want to buy a new computer, a digital camera, and some other things that beep and boop. I think the plan though is to buy 0% of those things. I think that's a good plan. SO BORED! GO HOME NOW! Ugh.
