The Layperson's Guide to My Repertoire of Anxiety and Death Dreams
19:50:46, 2000-08-03

1) [this is the first dream i ever remember having. I was two or three] Our neighbor Mrs. Schiavelli is made of glass. She is taking me to the museum. I am cautioned not to run up the steps of the museum, because if i do, Mrs. Schiavelli will break.

I try hard, but end up running. I turn back and see Mrs. Schiavelli break and crumble to a pile on the steps, but then a crane with three claws comes and picks me and Mrs. Schiavelli up by our coats, so I guess she is ok again. The three claws are red, blue, and yellow. They pick us up and take us to court... i forget the rest of the dream..

2) [also from childhood, recurrent]: i am planting flowers with my mom, and a small car (toy size) drives up with man wearing a derby hat inside, he is a toy. He uses some magic force to put me in the car, and then we are speeding down my street, toysized. I am frightened.

3) [recurrent in college] My teeth are loose, I know they are going to fall out, and I know I can't grow any more.

4) [every once in a while still have these] It's prom day/ my wedding day and I forgot to get a dress.

5) [same with these] It's the last day of classes and I realize I completely forgot that I had a class on Tuesday and this is the first time I've been for the whole semester.

6) [recurrent every few years] i am in an elevator that won't stop ascending, it breaches the roof and keeps ascending, and i must find a way to either stop it and jump out or get it back down straight into the building's elevator shaft using only the buttons available on the control panel. Often, once the elevator starts descending, there is a panic over whether it will ever stop. Usually these dreams involve multiple occurrences each, and every time I enter the elevator I have anxiety that it's going to do it again; and sometimes it doesn't, but usually it does. Interesting side note: I have no fear of elevators at all in real life.

7) [first complete death dream i had; high school] I am beheaded by a guillotine hung over my parents' stove. I'm waiting for a quick death, but then i hear a motor sound and realize that the guillotine is electric, and is coming down very slowly. After a few agonizing seconds, I feel it pinch the back of my neck, but there is no pain. It slowly cuts through my neck until i can't speak or breathe, then i go into a cold sweat and lose consciousness.

8) [most memorable complete death dream, sensations were extremely realistic. i honestly believe that when i do die, i won't be surprised at how it feels, having had this dream.] I am shot once and survive, then am shot again and this time I bleed to death on a gurney. Once I realize I am going to die, I let go and can feel the life slipping out of my body. It feels like being too high, being dizzy and disoriented, too much white noise in my head, not enough blood in my head, and a cold sweat, all my nerve endings are going silent in a wave. Eventually the fuzzy bloodless feeling in my head overwhelms and then it slowly drains away, and I cease to exist.
